A video showing Kwame Lighter, the well-known phone repairer from Kumasi, constructing a new store in Kumasi Kronum has gone viral.
Going viral, Kwame Lighter, a phone repairer from Kumasi, is establishing a new store in Kronum. On social media, a video of the store’s interior during setup has gone viral.
The 27-year-old stood by in the video while two craftspeople mended cupboards and shelving. Other furnishings and tools required for his job are also being installed in the area.

Many Ghanaians expressed their enthusiasm for the new store. When the location opens, some people claim they are prepared to bring their phones to him for repairs. Others commended him for making significant progress in his business.
He contacted the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, who helped him reach Kwame Lighter. A plane ticket was arranged for the young repairer to fly to Accra. During their meeting, the minister said he was surprised to learn that Kwame Lighter was not a teenager but a grown man with years of experience.
Kwame Lighter told the minister that he has trained many young people in phone repair. The minister said the young man was a good example of the kind of local talent that needs support.
Kwame Lighter met with Samuel Nartey George, Minister of Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovations, shortly after the opening of the new store. The meeting was held in the minister’s Accra office on Wednesday, April 9, 2025.
The minister claimed that when he initially came across a video of Kwame Lighter online, he did not give it any thought. He was later informed of the young man’s potential by a number of people, including well-known individuals and regular Ghanaians. He claimed to have watched the film again while attending an AI summit in Rwanda and was impressed.
