A Ghanaian parliamentary candidate has gone viral after promising his constituents a ‘One Student, One Bofrot’ initiative if elected into power.
Lovista Owusu, the LPG parliamentary candidate for the Bekwai Constituency, has captured widespread attention with a unique campaign promise: to provide each basic and junior high school student with one “bofrot” (a popular Ghanaian pastry).

While addressing constituents during his campaign, Owusu highlighted his commitment to enhancing the free school meal program initiated under President Nana Addo’s administration. He expressed his desire to complement the program by adding a local favorite to students’ meals.
Though his pledge sparked some laughter and skepticism, with critics calling the promise unrealistic, it certainly stirred discussions. Many viewed it as an unconventional strategy to connect with voters, while others dismissed it as an attempt to gain popularity in the political spotlight.
In the heat of election campaigns, every candidate seeks to stand out, and Owusu’s “One Student, One Bofrot” initiative has undoubtedly made him a topic of conversation.
Whether seen as a sincere offer or a lighthearted gimmick, the pledge has set him apart as a candidate with a unique approach to addressing local issues.
