Reports show that unidentified bandits attacked MP Mahama Ayariga’s house before setting it on fire. The attack occurred without evidence of any people being present.
The security facilities belonging to the government experienced multiple attacks through burning fires following recent incidents targeting police buildings. Currently authorities are investigating if these two incidents share a connection, although the destructive pattern indicates increasing security problems in the area.
The recent outbreak of violence resulted in a single death among the multiple wounded individuals with varying levels of injuries. Healthcare centres serving the local population face a crisis because the fighting between groups has worsened.
Mahama Ayariga released a public declaration this week to condemn the current violence, and he specifically pointed to the Bawku shooting incident. The MP stated that he did not authorize security decisions because “No decision taken by law enforcers should be put at my doorstep.” He stated that his role as the Bawku representative does not extend to security operations command or influence.

The citizens of Bawku remain in constant fear while demanding that the central government strengthen military numbers in their region and execute rapid peacekeeping operations. These ethnic tensions and land disputes, which have plagued the area for a long time now, have brought significant nationwide concern because of their recent escalation.
Security forces have isolated different sections of the town while backup units are reported to be positioned for deployment. The authorities have started their investigation into the MP’s residence attack, yet they have not provided any official statement about the incident.
As a matter of fact, the government plans to hold a crisis meeting after national security agencies evaluate the security conditions.
