The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) joined forces with the Ministry of Labour and Employment to launch official Work Abroad Programme committees through their Technical and Steering Committee launch on April 7, 2025.
The government achieved significant progress in its mission of offering youth access to secure international work possibilities through regulated channels.
The launch ceremony took place recently together with Malik Basintale, the Chief Executive Officer of YEA, who attended along with other important figures. Basintale explained during his speech that the program serves as a means to make President John Mahama’s decent labour migration vision possible while offering Ghanaian youth international work experience to bring home valuable contributions for national development.
Moreover, Mr. Basintale declared that the government remains committed to establishing proper migration channels that enable youth to acquire international experience before returning to support national development.

The newly inaugurated committees consist of representatives from a broad array of institutions, including the Ministry of Labour, YEA, Labour Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Ministry of the Interior, Ghana Immigration Service, as well as international bodies such as the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD), the International Labour Organisation (ILO), the International Organization for Migration (IOM), and the University of Ghana’s Centre for Migration Studies.

The organizations work together to enhance the Work Abroad Programme through better coordination activities, oversight functions, and strategic planning operations.
The program will prioritize participant safety together with security and welfare. These comprehensive policies target the complicated nature of overseas work migration to guarantee ethical and fair treatment of Ghanaian workers abroad.

These committees demonstrate the government’s dedication toward providing enduring job opportunities to young people, thus making Ghana a significant international labour migration participant.
In effect, this program will enable numerous young Ghanaians to gain essential workforce experience across different global sectors, thus improving their professional competencies and expanding their career potential.
